the wrong person says, you’re beautiful
and he puts his hands between my thighs as if he means it
soft, unlike the others. shivering, like there’s a river inside
in the background, a television flickers muted warnings
while somewhere else i am with you in winter again
so when the wrong person says you’re beautiful kid
i forget that i tend to mistake noise for information
and some people make you feel the opposite of clean
and these hands on my body are not my hands
but i remember the way i look at tiny route maps
the ones placed above the train’s double doors
a trail of blue dots stretching across a straight line
every station passed is a station closer to the end
Natalie Chin [b. 1992] is studying in London.
